Mitt Romney releases new tax/economic plan; and there are some problems with it

Several weeks ago it was posited that conservatism was like a second language to Mitt Romney. Well, here is some proof of that. Today in Chandler, Arizona Mitt Romney said, "I'm going to lower rates across the board for all American's by 20%. All right? And in order to limit any impact on the deficit, because I don't want to add to the deficit, and also in order to make sure that we continue to have progressivity as we've had in the past in our code,"

This speech in Arizona is the beginning of Mitt Romney abandoning his 59 point economic plan with its first point being to maintain current tax rates, in leu of a new economic plan. Which apparently starts with having a top tax rate of 28%, and 5 other tax rates going down to a bottom rate of 8%.

Now, lets compare Mitt's new tax policy to the tax policy Rick Santorum has been campaigning on for months. First instead of 6 individual tax rates, that number is reduced to 2, with a top tax rate of 28% and a bottom rate of 10%. On the corporate tax side, that rate is dropped from 35% to 17.5% and for manufacturing that tax rate is reduced to zero. As a conservative who believes in major tax reform, Mitt Romney's new tax plan, while slightly better than his old plan, is nothing to get excited about given the far better tax changes offered by Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich's optional 15% flat tax. The goal of any tax reform is to end up with lower, flatter, simpler tax rates and tax code. Granted Mitt Romney's new plan hits on the lower part of tax reform, however he completely misses the flatter and simpler portions.

So why is Mitt Romney advocating individual tax rates of 28-8% and not a 15% flat tax, or the Fair Tax?

To answer that, brings us to the portion of that Romney quote that has been annoying me all day, "continue to have progressivity" in relation to taxation in America. When someone comes out in favor of the progressive aspect of our nations progressive income tax, we have a problem. Especially, if that person is running for President in the Republican party, the party of tax reform. It also doesn't help if this same person 10 years ago called themselves a moderate whose views are progressive.

My problem with Mitt Romney liking and wanting to maintain our progressive income tax, has a lot to do with the fact that I loathe the source and origin of the progressive income tax concept, Karl Marx. Marx would write in the Communist Manifesto, that one of the elements necessary for the proper development of Communism in a nation was, "A heavy progressive or graduated income tax." I believe that for the proper and necessary development of a free enterprise economy taxation should be simple, uniform and low. Thus, my advocation on behalf of a flat 15% individual and corporate tax structure and ultimately a national consumption tax to take the place of income taxes.

In defending the current progressive income tax, all be it with lower rates, Mitt Romney talked about wanting to continue to have the top 1% pay into the treasury what they are now. How, vary Occupy Wall Street of Mitt. The most recent IRS data I have seen has the top 10% of earners paying 70% of the federal income tax burden, the top 1% pay 38% of the total burden. Meanwhile, the bottom 47% pay zero in federal income taxes. Who in their right mind wants to continue this?

Nearly half of all Americans are paying nothing towards our governments constitutional obligations while a mere 10% are paying darn near the entire thing. This kind of a disparity is wrong and it should be opposed by someone seeking the GOP nomination. Yet, it is embraced and its maintenance continued under the policies of a would-be President Romney.

We do not need to continue with a Marxist tax policy. We do not need a manager of our nations decline. We do not have to accept the premises of the Occupy Wall Street liberal Democrats. We don't need Mitt Romney or his timid proposals. We need a true solid conservative, with a bold set of tax changes, who will cut down on the size of government and be a stark contrast with President Obama. Mitt Romney is not that person. Rick Santorum is.

Rep. Garrett of New Jersey in a hearing on President Obama's FY2013 budget asks the director of the Office of Management and Budget in what year does the Obama plan have the federal budget balanced. Simple enough question right. Well, it seems that question was to hard to answer for the OMB director as he could not bring himself to say what the answer is. Should Illinois go with Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum

The Illinois Republican primary on March 20 is going to mean a great deal in regards to deciding who the GOP presidential nominee is going to be. It is vital that we do our part to help make sure that that nominee is the best possible contrast to President Obama.

We do not need to have the winner of the Illinois primary be a milquetoast or mush candidate. We do not have to pick as our nominee someone who favored TARP and the bailouts. We do not need to select a candidate who wrote the blueprint for Obamacare. We do not have to settle for someone who wanted no part of the Reagan revolution and described themselves a decade ago as a moderate.

Illinois and the Republican party can do better than Mitt Romney to be the person to challenge President Obama. In Rick Santorum we have a candidate who won't surrender the Obamacare issue, who opposed TARP and the bailouts from the outset, and has solid conservative proposals and doesn't treat conservatism as a second language.

On March 20 the choice is clear the principled conservative candidate whom we need to vote to be President is Rick Santorum.

Do we live in a post constitutional nation?

The recent controversy involving President Obama violating the First amendment by compelling faith based institutions and their insurance companies to cover, for free, contraceptives, sterilization and morning-after abortion pills is yet more evidence that the Constitution is a document liberals and Democrats view with complete disdain and will ignore, circumvent or trample in order to see their agenda to fruition.

Couple the free coverage of condoms with Obamacare's individual mandate, the recess appointments of Richard Cordray and 3 others when the Senate was not in recess, the refusal to allow military chaplains to read, unaltered, a letter from the hierarchy of the Catholic Church and comments made by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Egyptian TV that "I would not look to the US Constitution, if I were drafting a constitution in the year 2012," and the question begs to be asked, do we live in a post constitutional nation"

For the sake of posterity I hope the answer is, not for long. Those of us who respect, cherish and hold the Constitution sacred must do all we can to convince our fellow voters to make President Obama unemployed following the November election.

I just have to respond;
Del Wasso (Kick us out?) writes "your politics of hate, injustice and inequality will ultimately end up on the trash heap of history." This was directed at Rep. Allen West and what he and dozens of other lawmakers were elected to do, be principled and cut government spending, lower taxes and take other measures like moving towards energy independence to create jobs and get the economy growing out of this malaise. People like Rep. West and Rep. Joe Walsh, among others, are trying to do the job others refuse to do, like hold the line on our runaway debt and deficits, reform entitlements and pass budgets(something Sen, Harry Reid hasn't done in over 1000 days).

The genuine politics of hate, Del, are the words and actions taken over the last few years by Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and President Obama that have saddled generations not yet born with a mountain of debt they will never be able to repay and will leave to them a Constitution torn to shreds by things like Obamacare's individual mandate and President Obama's recent recess appointments when the Senate wasn't in recess.

To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, a recession is when your neighbor loses his job, a depression is when you lose yours, and recovery begins when President Obama loses his.
